OSSE 5th-street NE bus depot

Washington DC

Built in the 1950’s, the OSSE School Bus terminal is located at 2115 5th Street NE Washington DC and is a city-managed property. The building was designed to house the maintenance garage for the school system’s fleet of buses and to provide space and offices for drivers and administration.
Buses access the maintenance area via an exterior ramp and garage doors on the north side of the building.  The maintenance area included pits so repairs could be made to the bus undercarriage.
dp+partners is providing design services for the renovation of the facility in its entirety to meet the needs of all users by creating a facility which is supportive and comfortable for the drivers and administrative personnel while remaining a functioning repair and maintenance facility. The existing building is considered to have historic value in the Eckington area of the District.
The scope of work calls for a driver’s lounge both interior and exterior, training room, kitchenette, and upgraded finishes throughout for the offices and workstations. DGS has mandated that the project meet the minimum standards for LEED Silver, with a green roof and living wall.
